Coating Solutions for Manipulating Surface Energy to combat Adhesive Buildup

Whether you are trying to prep a surface for optimum acceptance of an adhesive or trying to make sure a surface is doesn’t allow adhesives to adhere, you are dealing with manipulating the “Surface Energy” of that surface (even if you don’t think of it as surface energy).

In the adhesive world, most of the time the focus is on making SURE the adhesive adheres to the surfaces it is expected to bond with, so there is no failure.

The flip side of this goal occurs when a composite tool being used to mold high-performance composite components isn’t releasing the molded parts properly. Or a Converter in the die cutting industry who works with adhesive-backed labels, who constantly fights adhesive creep and buildup that spreads onto other surfaces of their processing equipment causing costly quality and production issues.

For those surfaces where adhesive buildup is not welcome, Dyna-Tek has various coatings designed to manipulate the Surface Energy. In their liquid form, our coatings exhibit high surface energy that, due to their chemical compositions which form strong covalent (chemical) bonds, allows them to create tenacious bonds with most substrates.

Conversely, when our coatings are cured, this creates a low surface energy “surface” due to various key factors, but primarily related to chemical modification and surface morphology. If our coatings are applied properly, the result will be a surface that adhesives find virtually impossible to adhere to!
