Dyna-Tek’s Intern Class of 2025!
Share
Dyna-Tek’s first summer internship program was a resounding success. Students, Joe Holley and Abhijeet Selvan, both studying Chemical Engineering and going into their Junior year at Kansas University, spent 12 weeks at Dyna-Tek this summer.
Joe and Abhi worked side by side with different members of Dyna-Tek’s team on several projects including but not limited to:
- Creating a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Dyna-Tek’s Thermo Fisher NICOLET iS10 FT-IR Spectrometer, an instrument that uses the interaction of infrared light to analyze chemistries to determine their molecular composition and structure.
- Worked several days with the Production team producing several of Dyna-Tek’s coatings used in the aerospace industry.
Abhi and Joe were also actively involved in our first organized efforts using the “Fail Fast” methodology for new coating products development program. Our initial goals for this program set a high bar to create another family of coating products that not only kept the same high-performing levels of hydrophobic coatings capable of temperatures over 1200° F that our coatings are already known for, but to enhance the thermal management properties (both insulative and dissipative) and higher film-build variations.
The first phase of this development program exceeded our expectations with:
- Over 30 different formulations were created and made; most of which were “failures”, but each one offering Iterative and incremental insight and knowledge which was applied to the logic of the successive versions thereof.
- Achieved coating thicknesses with up to 10X’s higher film-builds.
- Several formulations exhibited excellent abrasion-resistant properties well beyond that of most coatings.
- Several formulations incorporated the use of graphene additives provided by HydroGraph Clean Power.
All in all, our Intern Class of 2025 not only helped us to successfully trial the “Fail Fast” business management and product development concept but also played meaningful roles in their collaboration with the Dyna-Tek team that resulted in potentially, several new 1st-Gen coating candidates of high-potential coating products to add to Dyna-Tek’s portfolio of coating products.
